Falling into Fall

Its time for the second-best time of the year, Fall! The first best part of the year? Can't give you that gift yet ;)

In the meantime, I wanted to give you guys some fall outfit inspiration that you can wear on a daily basis while still looking good and of course, having that minimal effort. You can wear these looks for any holiday functions you have coming up (i.e Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.), date night, or if you just want to look good as hell. Lizzo said it- but also maybe me too!

Look One: City Chic

For this outfit, I channeled my inner-city chic girl and wanted to integrate something simple and make it (close to) extraordinary. I've been in the SF Bay Area my entire life so I knew how fricken frackin cold it would be in Golden Gate Park, and this outfit was perfect to stay warm. Trends come and go but some trends never die. In this look, I took classic pieces and put them together for something that you might think is fresh off the racks (which is not, not true, I got this coat literally the day before this shoot, oops!). I was always weird about turtlenecks growing up and thought they were just this itchy scratchy concept that was unpractical. However, with mock neck and cowl neck tops, they have become a game-changer that offers the aesthetic of a turtleneck without being too tight so you're comfortable and stylish. Black denim has always been a staple for me whether its summer or winter, you'll always find me in my favorite pair from Abercrombie. In SF, everyone is beyond casual here and you'll usually find people rocking a Patagonia or a Lululemon jacket. However, I like to consider myself a West Coast x East Coast hybrid because I love coats but I also don't want to go East (the weather and no gorgeous ocean is not the move). The thing that is nice about SF is that it does actually get cold enough to wear coats and the perk about them is not only that you'll look sophisticated and put together, but it will also keep you warm so it's super practical! I also love shoes, so these booties from Sam Edelman were an absolute must and its super trendy with the snake texture as well. All in all, a great city chic look for shopping with the girls, or going to the Conservatory of Flowers!

Look 2: The Traveler

Okay, so if I'm being honest I really wanted to call this the Napa look but realistically not everyone has the luxury of being able to easily getaway to wine country. However, I did want to channel major adventure vibes with this look. The concept of this outfit is ease, functionality, and of course style. Usually, when I'm on the move, I prefer to have something easy to throw on and go on with my day that is also no fuss. The reason why I chose a jumpsuit for this look is that 1. they're super trendy, 2. it’s fall, it’s cold, long pants are the move, 3. you can easily dress it up or down. I picked out this jumpsuit from Abercrombie which has a cute tie back and pockets (which is always a win for me!). I also think a staple jacket to go with a jumpsuit is perfect whether that's a cozy cardigan, a drapey trench coat, or a suede moto jacket like the one I have on in this pic. Another thing I always think about when I'm on the move is minimalism aka- the less the better. I like having a small crossbody to hold my essentials and occasionally an accessory that won't be inconvenient (i.e my hat, which is a perfect fall staple). Whether you're adventuring around your dream city or you just want a simple and dressy look, this is the one for you.

Look 3: Day to Night girl

What's that saying? Now you see me, now you don't. Ah yes! That's the one.

This statement is what inspired the method to my madness with this day to night look. I wanted to curate something that was appropriate for fall that you can wear from work to happy hour with friends while still being comfy, warm, and trendy. I kept it pretty simple with this outfit starting off with this sweater dress from Zara which is incredibly comfortable and perfect for the fall/winter season. If you're in a colder climate, I suggest adding on sheer tights/stockings to offer some extra warmth while still looking good. The thing about sweater dresses is that sometimes it can fit like a potato sack and ruin all the potential. But don't fret! All it takes to fix this problem is a simple belt. I also love the concept of draping your jacket/coat over your shoulders that way your hands are free and it also keeps you warm without overheating. Of course, I had to top it off with the over the knee boots which are a staple for this time of year.

Look 4: Date Night

Last but not least, its date night baby! Or if you're like me and just like to dress up like you're going out on a date but its really just with yourself.. or with your mom... (don't @ me). I thought this look was perfect for date night cause its fun and flirty while still being seasonally appropriate. My entire look (minus the coat) is from Aritzia and I absolutely love it. It's minimalistic while still being chic and modest. I think what makes this look is honestly the booties because most people don't go for booties with this type of look but rather knee-high boots, sneakers, or some type of strappy heel which offers a much dressier vibe. Those are all a bit bolder and I believe simplicity is key, especially on the first date!

Of course, take any of these outfit inspirations and add your own twist to it. Stockings, hats, scarves, etc. will all be great accessories to add on to keep you warm if you're traveling somewhere colder but otherwise, I think all these looks were pretty practical (I did a test with these looks in 55 degrees, windy SF weather). Let me know your thoughts and don't forget to tag me @fionafkntran on Instagram if you try to re-create one of these looks or got some inspiration from this!

XO, Fiona
